During WWII several different locomotives were designed and erected, but none were as successfull as the WD Austerity 2-8-0. Built from 1943 to 1945, some 950 were erected and played a great part in the movement of wartime traffic to the ports. They survived until the early 60's when most steam locos were being replaced with diesel and electric. Such a pity.
