GWR Slate Wagon Transporter

The slate and granite industries of North & Mid Wales required wagons. The wagons were produced in the wagon works some 50 miles away. These wagons (2ft and 2ft 4 gauge) couldnt be transported to the mines in any way except by standard gauge track. So the GWR devised a Slate Wagon Transporter Wagon depicted here. Constructed in the late 1800's, saw use on the n & Mid Wales rails up until the late 50's.
